Need a macOS app icon generator?

FreeAppIcon currently generates iOS, Android and web packages. It does not generate a native macOS app icon set, an ICNS file or an Icon Composer document. If you are shipping a Mac app, use the Apple workflow appropriate to your project.

An iOS catalog is not a macOS catalog

Both platforms use app icons, but the exported iOS Contents.json describes iPhone, iPad and marketing slots. Renaming that folder does not add Mac-specific entries or create an ICNS file. The 1024px PNG is artwork you can inspect or reuse where appropriate; the whole iOS package is not a ready-made macOS export.

Prepare artwork for your Mac project

  1. Keep a high-resolution original and any editable layers. Choose a recognizable shape that remains clear at smaller sizes.
  2. Open your Mac target in Xcode and follow Apple’s app icon asset catalog instructions for the required image wells.
  3. For projects using layered icons, follow the Icon Composer workflow linked from Apple’s documentation. FreeAppIcon does not produce that layered document.
  4. Inspect your app in the Dock and other system contexts, then validate the native build before distribution.

Using FreeAppIcon on a Mac

You can run this online tool in a modern browser on macOS to prepare supported iPhone, Android or web icons. Running the tool on a Mac does not change which export platforms it supports.

For an iPhone or iPad project, use our iOS app icon generator. For a website or PWA, follow the web icon setup guide. Return to the app icon generator to prepare those supported formats.
